What is forming you?
The visible decision is not the whole story.
A future warning can remain safely distant while present habits go unexamined. These opening chapters bring the question of allegiance into the present, without claiming that every ordinary pressure is the mark.
Begin before the demand
Chapter One reads the mark within a world already shaped by wonder, worship, deception, and coercion. Attention to that setting changes the question: not only what might happen later, but what is teaching us to call something true now.
Let discernment include the self
Christ’s words to the churches make this more than an investigation of an enemy outside us. The ability to receive correction matters. The book invites careful reading, honest self examination, and a willingness to hear.
